FAQ
Who is Peter Lee?
I'm a British-born Chinese expat from London, living in mainland China since 1999 and in Shanghai since 2005. I've mostly worked in market research and talent development, but I have also owned a bar and a restaurant for a few years in Shanghai.
Why did you start this website?
I had my first personal website back in the 1990s. I also had a moderately successful blog in the mid-2000s, writing about my experiences living in China as an expat and all the weird and wonderful experiences I was having. That died after I realized it was taking a large amount of time for very little reward and I did have a busy full time job as well.
I do think it is important to have a personal website in this day and age so that people can find out a little about me before deciding whether to connect with me for further discussions and so that prospective employers or clients can have a look at this site and find out a bit more about me before deciding to interview or hire me. Apart from finding out some useful information, my hope is that it also demonstrates my website building skills and my communication skills.
What platform do you use to host your website?
There are many great hosting sites to choose from. I am using Ghost to host this website.
Why is the domain name chingwa.co.uk?
My Chinese name is Ching-Wa but (surprisingly), chingwa.com is not available and I felt that a co.uk domain would be the next best option since I am British. Anything linked to Peter Lee of course would be much more difficult to register (peterlee.com or peterlee.co.uk obviously aren't going to be available for example).
